A Survey of Pediatric Inpatients with Generalized Convulsions

Abstract
Of the 1501 children admitted to the Department of Pediatrics, Chonnarn University Medical School Hospital for the year beginning January 1, 1981, 248 with convulsions were subjected to this clinical survey.
The incidence of convulsion in the admitted was approximately one in six with no difference in the sex ratio, and the highest incidence was found to occur in early childhood(39.9%) followed by the schoolchild group and infancy group.
The highest incidences of convulsions were also found to stem from tetanus in the neonates, various meningitis in infancy and early childhood, and epidemic encephalitis in schoolchildren and adolescence.
Over half the children with convulsions had fever as an associated symptom.
Almost all were admitted through the emergency room within 3 days of an attack.
